WEEPING PUSSY WILLOW

The other day I was at the grocery and found this little treasure. It's a Weeping Pussy Willow.

When I first purchased it all the buds were completely closed, since then they have opened.

In the summer I will transplant it outside. It is a beautiful little bush.

I LOVE ORCHIDS!!!

I love Orchids!
When we lived in South Florida my hubby built me a green house especially for Orchids. So now living in Georgia I still collect them. Someday maybe I'll get a green house here!

I keep them in the house in the winter and then in the summer I put them out on my porch in a shady area. They are pretty easy to grow and re-bloom every year. You should try them if you don't already have some.

SPRING FEVER

Spring Fever, Boy do I have it!!!!! It was 13 degrees when I woke up this morning and I'm ready for warmer weather!!!
I have been planning what's going into the garden this year and dreaming about the flower beds!
We plan to put an electric fence around the vegetable garden as the deer were horrible this past year. My Son was able to shoot 3 during hunting season, but yesterday there was 7 deer standing out in my garden area. It will be a challenge to keep them out this spring!
I started some seeds last week on my kitchen counter in front of the window, using the Burpee Seed starter kit. They are already up and are about 2 inches tall. I planted Cilantro, Basil, Lettuce, Tomato's, and Morning Glory Flower seeds.
I love Perennial flowers!
Every year I try to add some new plants. We live in the middle of a woods, but where our house sets was a natural clearing that was a little meadow. There are flower beds all around our house and across the whole back yard are Peonies and loads of day lily's, looking out across the clearing and horse pastures at the mountains.
I have a rock wall that is viewed from my kitchen window, I have planted succulents on top and around the rocks. At the very back are Hydrangea shrubs and then there is a border of Day Lily's. There are Bleeding Hearts, Tulips, Daffodils, Butterfly bushes and small Cottage Roses and Peonies. At the base of this wall I planted Lily of the Valley and Coralbells and Sedum. The base of the wall I call My Moms garden, as after she passed away, I moved plants from her flower beds in Ohio to our home here in Georgia. It is a beautiful garden in the spring and I will be sure to post pictures when it all starts blooming!
Spring is my favorite time of the year!
Well enough of my rambling on about spring and flowers! I hope you all have had a great day and are happy and healthy!

BLOKUS A NEW FUN FAMILY GAME

Have you heard of the new game Blokus?
The original game, for 2 to 4 players, which has become a classic board game throughout the world. It is comprised of a square board containing 400 squares, and 84 pieces made up of small squares. Play it with your family or among friends: with Blokus Classic you are guaranteed to have fun moments that challenge you and make you think. When it is played by four people, the game is very animated and the outcome is never certain! Played by two people (where each player has two colors), the game provides the opportunity for more strategic and careful thinking.
The game is very simple to understand and to master and is the best product for beginners and for young players.
We played this game last night with our oldest son and his wife (Jared & Mary). It is so much fun!!!
If you get the chance you should try to buy a game and give it a try!
Our grandsons enjoyed watching WALL.E and Dr. Seus's Horton Hears A Who. We had pizza and homemade apple sauce, chips and dip, Stromboli, and strawberry shortcake for dessert. And I almost forgot to mention Barq's Red Cream Soda to drink!!!! We brought home 10 cases from Indiana, when we went to visit Josh's. It's a northern thing and can't be found in the south!
It is so much fun to get together and have an evening of eating together and playing games with family and friends!!!!
Saturday I started from seed, Cilantro, Basil, Mixed Lettuce, Morning Glory's and Tomato's. I like to have fresh Cilantro and Basil in my kitchen all the time!
On Saturday for lunch my husband (Ron) and I went to Clayton Ga to eat at Mama G's. It's an Italian Restaurant, and is one our favorites! Ron had Wild Mushroom Ravioli and I had Cheese Ravioli in a marinara sauce plus we each had the house salad which consists of lettuce, roasted red peppers, fresh basil leaves, tomato, and red onion with a raspberry vinaigrette house dressing and not to mention their wonderful homemade garlic rolls!!!!! If you ever get in the area it is well worth a stop!!!
Take care my friends and I hope this finds you all well and happy!!! God bless each and everyone of you!

JANUARY 2009, WHERE DOES THE TIME GO?

JANUARY 2009, WHERE DOES THE TIME GO?

Here we are already into the middle of the first month of a new year! Time flies!!!!

We traveled to Indiana to visit our son Joshua and his family over Christmas. On the way to Indiana we received a call from our daughter in law, as she was heading to the hospital to meet our son whom had just cut his finger off in a table saw at work. He got his index finger on his right hand. They were not able to save it. So we were there to help him mend and get use to the idea of it all.
My husband re plumbed their house as there pipes were the old iron pipes that they used 70 years ago. He also built in a microwave above Emily's stove. We split wood and stacked it for future use as they heat with wood.
In the evenings we played a new game called Blockus. It's really fun! Christmas was really fun as they have 4 children and you can just imagine the excitement in that household!
We returned home by the 5th of January. And so did the painters!!!! They finally finished this past Friday! I'm so glad to have that all behind me!
February is just around the corner and we will soon be getting the garden ready. We usually plant peas in February. I plan to put an electric fence in to hold out rabbits and deer. I need to take a look at the Burpee catalog and get garden seeds ordered. With the way the economy is I feel the need for a garden is greater than ever!!!
Well I feel I'm already plunging into the new year head first! I hope to get back to my recipe blog also!
I hope this finds you all well and happy! Any questions on gardening or canning, I will be happy to reply! Take care my friends!!!!
